Composite fabrics utilize advanced technology and new materials from "new synthetic fibers," possessing many superior properties (compared to ordinary synthetic fibers). These include a finer, more delicate, elegant, and warm fabric appearance; a fuller, windproof, and breathable appearance; and a degree of waterproofing. Its main characteristics are excellent warmth retention and breathability. Through different materials and processes, composite fabrics can achieve a range of high performance far exceeding basic waterproofing capabilities. For example, PTFE laminated composite fabrics possess multiple functions such as virus blocking, antistatic properties, blood penetration prevention, waterproofing, moisture permeability, windproofing, and warmth retention, making them suitable for special protection, outdoor sports, and other fields.
Another characteristic of this fabric is its excellent abrasion resistance. Microfiber fabrics are soft to the touch, breathable, and moisture-permeable, thus offering significant advantages in terms of tactile and physiological comfort. However, microfiber fabrics have poor wrinkle resistance (due to the softness of the fibers and poor elastic recovery after wrinkling). To overcome this shortcoming, a "composite" process is employed, greatly improving the poor wrinkle resistance of microfiber fabrics. The key to composite processes lies in the adhesives used. Currently, widely used polyurethane hot melt adhesives (TPU/PUR) offer high bonding strength, good flexibility and elasticity, heat and water resistance, and do not release formaldehyde, making them safe and reliable. In contrast, some products using organic solvent-based "oil-based adhesives" may leave residual volatile organic solvents. Consumers can distinguish these by smell and choose products that meet national textile product safety standards. Due to the frequent use of microfibers, composite fabrics also possess high cleaning (stain removal) capabilities. Depending on their end use, composite fabrics can be divided into ordinary composite fabrics (improving texture and simplifying processing) and functional composite fabrics (possessing special functions such as waterproofing, breathability, radiation resistance, washability, and abrasion resistance). Composite fabrics are popular outerwear fabrics in Europe and America.
